The problem we saw every week
At Xoo every drawing starts the same way: someone sends a photo and a story. The house where the children grew up. The dog that just passed. Grandma and grandpa, fifty years married. Candy draws, erases, draws again, until it is right.
But handwork has two honest downsides, and we saw them every week. You have to wait, because a careful drawing takes days and a gift is sometimes needed tomorrow. And you have to pay up front for something you have never seen. However hard we worked on proofs, there was always that moment of let's hope it turns out well.
When AI became good enough to draw something truly beautiful, we faced a choice. We could do what many sellers do: quietly use AI and keep the label 'handmade'. Or we could flip it around and make something better of it.
Dixels is that better thing. The styles are not random AI filters: they are shaped by what did and did not work in the studio for years. The clean line that captures a face instead of ruining it. The watercolour that is warm without turning kitsch. And Candy still checks every order before it is printed and shipped; we built the technology around it.
